There is always something to do in France. This time, we are highlighting an event that also takes place in the Netherlands, but in France, they truly go all out: the Journ ées du Patrimoine.

In the Netherlands, we are of course familiar with the European Heritage Days. In France, the concept of heritage is interpreted somewhat more broadly during the Journées du Patrimoine, held this year on September 21 and 22. Naturally, the most prominent buildings are free to visit on those days, but if you are in France that weekend, be sure to seek out locations that are normally closed to the public. This could be anything from a water tower to a creative hub offering free guided tours. It is well worth researching these options before your departure. The guided tours, in particular, offer an excellent opportunity to practice your French.
