In the Netherlands we have had all the festivities after New Year’s Day; in France this is only after Epiphany. How could it be different; there is something to eat on that day, namely a special cake: La Galette des Rois.
This is a round cake made of puff pastry and spice in the center (although the ingredients may vary by region). Regardless of the shape or taste; there is always a ‘bean’ (fève) in the cake. Whoever finds it may wear the crown that belongs to the Galette and is the king (in) for the rest of the day.
